It’s Earth Day, 2026.
This year’s theme, “OurPower, Our Planet™ reflects a fundamental truth that transcends political cycles. Environmental stewardship has never depended on a single institution or election. It is sustained by the daily decisions of communities, educators, workers, innovators, and families who understand that protecting the places they live and love is both a responsibility and a long-term investment.” earthday.org
This powerful headline is emblazoned across the landing page of earthday.org. The very first Earth Day in 1970 saw 20 million Americans show up, and led to the creation of the EPA. The twentieth anniversary of Earth Day in 1990 marked the event’s emergence as truly global, with an estimated 200 million people involved.
It’s 2026, and action is needed more than ever, every day, for clean air, safe water, and climate resilience.
Today and every day, people are showing up.
When we started The Carbon Community in early 2020, we had a crazy vision for a forest in which we would nestle a major research study on carbon sequestration. A facility for research, citizen science and community. Since then, Glandwr Forest has become an award-winning forest with a thriving volunteer program.
Because hundreds of people showed up.
Volunteers, supporters and people who believed in what was possible stayed the course and continue to cheer on this wonderful community.
You make things possible.
So this Earth Day, we say thank you to everyone.
Thank you for continuing to show up for climate and nature.
